v3.1 - 11/14/2009

Requirements to be a King

  1. Any adult male lion who gathers the support of three lionesses and two additional leonines of any gender or age may apply to be a King. There are no restrictions to the number of Kings the MUCK can have at any given time. Only adult male lions can be Kings. Cubs, juveniles, and adolescents are not qualified.
  2. The character must have been an adult for less than five years. Any lion characters who have been adult for five years or more are not eligible.
  3. The player may not have any serious previous infractions of MUCK rules.
  4. The character applying must not have previously been a King whose pride was disbanded three times.
  5. The applicant must connect an average of ten hours a week over a rolling six week period. Additionally, the five leonine members of the applying group who have the most time online must connect an average of ten hours a week over a rolling six week period. The wizards will take a look at connection times to see that the applicant has been connecting often before applying. Connecting and idling will not be an acceptable method of accruing time online. We will monitor idling. Failing to actively seek out roleplay while online will be grounds for disqualification of the application.

How to become a King

Any adult male lion who has been an adult for less than five (RL) years can apply to become a King. As mentioned above, there are no longer any restrictions on how many Kings the MUCK can have at any given time.

Induction periods, the time when you can apply to become a King, will occur once a month during the first full week of the month. Applications can be submitted at any time, but they will not be acted upon until the next induction period.

To apply to be a King, gather the support of three separate lionesses and two additional leonines of any age and gender. Each character cannot currently support another King and must be played by separate individuals. Send a muckmail to Ketekh or an email to listing your interest in applying and the names of the five supporting characters.

The members must be active on the muck. Their connection times will be averaged with the applicant's to determine whether the applicant qualifies for a Kingship.

Once the next induction period arrives, your application will be processed and you will be notified whether or not your application has been approved.

After Induction

Kings will be able to begin building their lands immediately after being inducted. Do not begin building your lands prior to this point.

Connection and idle times will be monitored on a monthly basis. If you fall below the required connection times, you will receive a warning the first time, and be given a two-week grace period to correct the situation. If it has not been corrected after the grace period is over, or if this is not the first offense, your pride will be disbanded and you will not be able to reapply until the next induction period.

If your pride is disbanded three times, you will be disqualified from re-applying with that character.

Queens and Heirs

Each pride may have a Queen and an Heir, though neither position is mandatory. The players of a Queen or Heir must not have any serious infractions of MUCK rules and must be approved by the wizards prior to a character being granted Queen or Heir status.

Since Queen status is also considered a leadership position, the Queen character must connect an average of ten hours per week over a six week rolling period or she will lose her status. The loss of a Queen will not result in the disbanding of a pride, merely the character's return to regular lioness status.

Heirs are not considered leadership positions, but must meet the requirements above in order to be granted King status when the current King of the pride steps down. Note that being given Heir status does not guarantee a King title, and an acting King may change his Heir prior to stepping down.

Multiple Kings

Prides can have multiple Kings, but both Kings must meet the requirements listed above with the exception of the number of supporters required to qualify as a pride.

For each additional King, a pride is required to gain the support of two additional lionesses and one leonine of any age or gender, beyond the initial three lionesses and two leonines of a lone king. A pride with two kings, for example, is required to have five lionesses and three additional leonines to qualify for pride status. Since multiple Kings are considered to be a single ruling entity, characters belonging to the players of either King will not count towards this total.

General Information

There is now a five year (RL) maximum time period in which a character can start a pride which begins the day a lion becomes an adult. After this period has passed, male lions will no longer qualify to start a pride.

If you are currently a King when you reach the five year mark, you will be allowed to keep your title so long as you maintain the requirements to remain a King. Failure to maintain the requirements will result in your pride being immediately disbanded. Once your character has passed the five year mark as an adult, you are no longer qualified to apply for a pride, so if your pride is disbanded, you will NOT be allowed to reapply with that character, even if it is the first time your pride has been disbanded. If you wish, you can create a new male lion to take the place of your former King, but please note - this must be a new character and not your "old" King masquerading under a different name.

Players cannot have more than one King or Queen at a time.

There is no longer an 'aging' requirement for male lions. You may create a male lion at any point in his life, just like any other character. Bear in mind, however, that the day the lion becomes an adult, the five year "King" timer begins.

Reasons for disbanding prides (removing the "King" title)

  1. OOC Harassing another player for any purpose, be that trying to force them to join, to roleplay a certain way, to react to the King a certain way, etc. NO OOC harassment will be tolerated!
  2. Any serious infraction of the rules.
  3. Failure of five members of the pride to maintain an average of ten hours a week over a rolling six week period and roleplaying most of that time.
  4. Failure to keep at least three lionesses or five leonines in the pride at any one time with each leonine from a different player.

Items 1 and 2 can include disqualification of future applications for Kingship.

Items 3 and 4 include disqualification of future applications for Kingship if the infraction is the third infraction by that King or his pride or if the character has been an adult for more than five years.

Disbanding can occur at any time. If your pride is disbanded and you are not disqualified from reapplying, you can reapply for Kingship during the next induction period.
